green pills

written while finishing chinese food and a sour merlot.

Phoebe Cates in "Drop Dead Fred". Her imaginary friend from childhood torments her as an adult. She wrestles with him for a time and finally gives in to the fact that she needs to rid herself of the nuisance. She goes to a psychiatrist who gives her a large bottle of big, green pills. Fred begs for his life; without her believing in him, he does not exist. It's been nearly ten years since I've seen this movie but I remember this one scene so clearly. Fred is talking to her, pleading with her to not take the pill. She looks at him, considers the bottle. Looks him dead in the eyes. Looks through him. And gobbles the pill down. Like magic, he disappears.
